B1.3 Development patterns

Development patterns

Development patterns create a strong sense of character formed through the arrangement of buildings and streets. By thoughtfully responding to the scale, rhythm, and layout of existing urban areas, all types of new developments can ensure to sensitively integrate with the surrounding urban grain in a positive way, by enhancing the sense of place, and creating continuity.

Illustrates two differing development patterns via different building heights, forms and massing in the form of two 3-D model sketches.

Figure 10: Shows a sketch from the National Model Design Code which illustrates how buildings of different sizes and arrangements can provide variety in the urban grain.
