B6.6 Parking and cycling parking

Parking has a big influence on how employment areas look, feel, and function. The design of such spaces needs to be carefully planned to help create a welcoming and attractive place. Positioning car parking to the side or rear of buildings keeps street frontages active and interesting, whilst planting and trees can help to break up large hard surfaces, combat urban heating, and soften the overall appearance, creating better working environments. Well-integrated cycle parking encourages people to choose more active and low-carbon ways to get to work, whilst making space for electric vehicle (EV) charging is key to designing modern, future-ready workplaces. As more people and businesses switch to EV’s, easy and convenient charging helps supports greener travel choices and meet the needs of staff and visitors.
