Guidance: 6.34g

Proposed communal cycle parking provision should include:

  • a minimum 30% of spaces should be Sheffield-type stands with integral lock plates tested and certified to Sold Secure Gold standard, allowing the cycle frame and wheel to be locked securely

  • a minimum of 5% of spaces should be Sheffield-type stands at 1.2 metres spacing to accommodate non-standard and adapted cycles, such as access bikes and cargo bikes

  • up to a maximum 70% (of the total provision) may be two-tiered racking where space is constrained

  • well-overlooked and lit cycle parking to maintain passive surveillance and user safety.

  • installation of a floor- or wall-mounted public bike pump (which is gas powered), where more than 40 cycle spaces are provided

  • installation of a public bike pump and repair tool station, where more than 80 cycle spaces are provided

  • provision for e-bikes

Guidance: 6.35g

Proposals should seek to provide greater cycle parking provision than the minimum (20-30% uplift) wherever possible.
