B6.2.2 Creating a positive front door

Code: C6.6

New development must position ancillary uses (such as offices and trade counters) along the primary frontage facing the public highway. This ensures a forward-facing, active street presence that enhances wayfinding and improves legibility.

Code: C6.7

All plant equipment, including rooftop installations, must be screened to minimise visual impact and prevent obtrusive elements in the built environment. Screening methods must be attractive and not add unnecessary height or massing to developments. Screening methods must also prioritise the use of natural screening or architectural features, unless operational reasons clearly demonstrate these are not feasible.

Guidance: G6.5

Screening should be considered from the outset of the design process, rather than treated as a retrofit measure. The siting and design of plant should be fully integrated into the overall layout to ensure an attractive and visually appropriate streetscape.
