B5.10.3 Waste storage space requirements

Each new house must include dedicated bin storage, which must be sufficiently provided to accommodate and adapt to the required number of wheelie bins in line with Building Regulations. Bin storage must be located in a well-screened area so as not to detract from the quality of the street design, whilst still allowing bins to be wheeled easily to collection points or the kerbside.

New apartments and flatted developments must provide communal bin stores that are adequately sized for the scale of the proposal, be secure, conveniently accessible for all residents, and managed to remain clean and fit for purpose in line with Building Regulations. These stores must be well-screened and integrated into attractive, purpose-designed enclosures to ensure they do not detract from the quality of the public realm or the setting of the building.
